Borrowed Stripes 🗣
Intro
This spoken word poem was inspired by the #PromptCombo theme:
Bestiary
Not every beast announces itself with claws, fangs, or a roar. Sometimes the most memorable creatures are the ones that refuse to fit our expectations.
The audio version below is the intended experience, though the full text is included underneath for anyone unable to listen.
Full text of Borrowed Stripes
We hear
“beast”
and imagine
something
capable
of shaking
the fear
right out of us.
Instead…
I found
borrowed stripes,
soft eyes,
and oversized ears.
With the kind of face
that says,
“How’s it going, eh?”
No roar.
No rampage.
Nothing to fear.
Besides…
the okapi can
lick its own ears.
Beat that,
dragon.
