Stop Taxing Our Taxes
Intro
This spoken word piece was inspired by the #MPprompt:
“Write me a poem about what you would do with a trillion dollars.”
With a trillion dollars, it becomes difficult to pretend our biggest problems are unsolvable. This spoken word piece came from thinking less about wealth itself, and more about what real care, repair, and progress might actually look like.
The audio version below is the intended experience, though the full text is included underneath for anyone unable to listen.
Full text of Stop Taxing Our Taxes
With a trillion dollars,
I would not build a rocket.
With a trillion dollars,
I would buy abandoned buildings
before another luxury tower
rose over a city already exhausted.
With a trillion dollars,
nobody working full time
would sleep in a car.
Nobody suffering from addiction
would be handed a pamphlet
and forgotten.
With a trillion dollars,
I would build a better system
for long-term care
and take it nationwide.
Solve the damn problem.
Stop taxing our taxes!
Stop treating shelter,
medicine, and food
like rewards for good behavior.
