Subtle Erosion

Contents

This poem was inspired by the #AmpersandAfterDark writing prompt phrase “an invitation that feels off,” and the way something can draw you in without ever clearly asking.

It leans into that uneasy pull, where repetition replaces reflection and the line between choice and habit starts to blur.

the nonstop scroll of pointless feed
factless lines that plant a seed
faceless voices, loud, repeat
often fake, but feel like need

no demand, no stated claim
still it pulls you in the same
soft suggestion dressed as flame
nothing clear, yet something aims

an invitation into insanity,
one doom scroll at a time

thumb keeps time, a steady drag
truth reduced to bait and flag
thoughts get clipped, begin to lag
meaning slips in every tag

no one asks and none decline
still the motion feels like sign
every post a thinner line
scraping down what once was mine

an invitation, never said
still accepted, quietly fed
not a path that lies ahead
more a grind inside the head

an invitation into insanity,
one doom scroll at a time
